Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Adarsha Mahavidyalaya was established to realize the vision of the Government of India, as it was envisaged, long back, by the legendary scholar, social reformer and the visionary of the knowledge-driven self-sustained economy, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. The major thrust of the mission is to expand higher education in the remotely located areas in the north-eastern states of the country.
The Central Library came into existence with the establishment of the Mahavidyalaya itself. It is located in a prominent area on the first floor of the College Building and is easily accessible.
The library has a holding of over 5,000 text books and reference books. The Central Library has, at present, Reading, Reference, Circulation, Reprography, Periodical and Newspaper Sections. For facilitating further studies, referencing and to support research works, each Department maintains its own dedicated Departmental Library . Holdings of the Departmental Library are open for studies and copying out of selected portions but cannot be borrowed.
For burrowing books or using any facilities of Central Library, the users must first apply for Library membership (Application form is available in the download section of website. Library membership will be issued after verification of the data and document. The membership of the library is open to all students, faculty members and other staff members of the Mahavidyalaya. Ex-students and Ex-faculty members can be issued library membership on special orders of the Principal, on conditions set forth by the Library Committee from time to time. The library remains open from 09-30 AM to 3-30 PM on all working days.
Reading Hours: 10-30 AM to 2-30 PM
Book Lending Hours: 11-30 AM to 2-30 PM
Book Returning Hours: 2-30 PM to 3-30 PM
The library members are to return the borrowed books on or before the due date or they can renew the books, but not more than one renewal. If any borrower fails to return the books on the due date, a fine of Rs. 1.00 per book per day will be charged. The library card holder is to physically come to the library while borrowing the books. Books can be borrowed from the library according to the following criteria:
B.Sc Students: 3 books for 10 days
H.S. Students: 1 book for 10 days
Faculty members: 4 books for 30 days
Staff members other than the faculty: 2 books for 15 days
The Mahavidyalaya has a Library Constitution and Monitoring Cell (LCMC). The objectives of this cell are to frame rules and regulations of the Central Library and also to look after the affairs related to the same from time to time. The LCMC is formed with the HODs of all the departments of this Mahavidyalaya as members, Assistant Librarian as Secretary and Principal as Chairperson. The users of Central Library of the Mahavidyalaya must follow the following rules and regulations:
Every library user who enters the library is to sign the ‘Library Entry Register' while entering the library and going out of it.
Bags and personal belongings (excepting Mobile Phones and Money Bags) are to be deposited in the ‘Property Counter’ while entering the library. Library staff will not remain responsible, under any circumstances, for loss of any personal belongings kept in the property counter.
Library users are required to maintain the stacking order of the books as it is, on the shelves, both in the Stack Area and the Reference Section.
Marking, underlining and tearing of pages etc. of library books, periodicals etc. are absolutely forbidden. Such act may attract cancellation of Library Membership Card and penalty, as may be decided by the appropriate authority.
Books on loan should be handled with all possible care to enable their continued use to the maximum possible extent. In case the borrower loses a library book or returns it in an un-acceptable condition, the borrower will be liable to replace the book or deposit double or triple of the cost price of the book as may be decided by the librarian.
If the library card is lost, a duplicate card will be issued on submission of an application and payment of Rs.50/-. The students are to deposit their Library Cards and all borrowed books, at the end of each Semester and before commencement of the Term End examination, on dates fixed by the library authority. Library Clearance would not be issued unless these are returned.
All library users are required to maintain silence, decorum and discipline in the library.
Any student or students found engaged in any inappropriate act or behaviour, unbecoming of a student, anywhere in the library arena, will be liable to disciplinary action, as may be decided by the appropriate authority.
Mobile Phones and Electronic Gadgets are not allowed to be used within the library by the students.
All Mobile Phones are to be kept in silence mood while entering the library. This clause is applicable to all library users and staff as well.
Writing on the desk in the reading room is completely prohibited. If found doing so, the library user will be restricted from all library facilities in future.
