Since its inception in the year 2017, the Department of Zoology has firmly established itself as one of the shining Departments of the Mahavidalaya. As per the students’ enrolment ratios from all the academic sessions, it is the most preferred Department for the students who are pursuing a career in science from this budding Institution. At present, the department is offering three years degree course (BSc) in Zoology for both Honours and General at the UG level under Assam University, Silchar, and course in Biology (Zoology) at the Higher Secondary (10+2) level under AHSEC.
The faculties of the Department are young, enthusiastic, motivated with excellent academic and research credentials and expertise. Along with teaching, the faculty members are persistently engaged in regular publication of research articles in reputed international peer-reviewed journals.
The Department periodically organizes popular talks, quizzes, etc. for the academic benefits of all concerns. The Department conducts excursions, field trips, etc. for the Departmental students so that the students get experiential learning of the subject in the real world
The Department is running an ECO CLUB, funded by the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), Guwahati. The Eco Club routinely organizes various environment-related activities, like cleanliness drive, plantation drive, popular talk, quiz competition, etc.
The Department is also maintaining a wall magazine BIOSPECTRUM, a knowledge-sharing platform where the students can express their own ideas on the latest advancements in the field of biology and improve their creative writings. The department is planning to open one Brain Club.
The Department has produced the topper of Zoology from its 1st batch, the First Class First position holder, and the Gold Medalist, Ms. Manisha Sinha, in the BSc Final Examination, 2020 among all colleges affiliated to Assam University, Silchar from its very first batch of students.
