The department of English came into existence in 2017. The department presently offers courses in English at the HS (10+2) level under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and at the UG level under Assam University, Silchar. As requirements of the UG courses, the department conducts classes on communication skills along with the teaching of reading and writing skills, so as to empower the Science students with capacity building. This apart, the department also strives to reorient the HS students with functional grammar and teaches academic writing skills, along with the refinement of the literary taste of the students while dealing with the prescribed literary texts.
The department is a fine mixture of brilliant and dedicated faculties coming from both literature and language backgrounds. The faculties have pursued their academic careers in reputable universities of the country, such as Gauhati, Pune, Delhi, and EFLU, Shillong. With illustrious academic careers, the faculties of the department have several years of teaching experience before joining this Mahavidyalaya. Excellent results of their students in English have proved the expertise and professionalism of the faculties. The faculties of this department are also invited as Resource Persons in NCERT’s teacher training programs and as language editors of the study materials at IDOL, Gauhati University.
